And just like that another month has flown past, so it’s time for the May monthly round up. I can’t believe it is already June!!
May marked the end of my exams which was a huge relief. My mum even made a trip up to Glasgow to celebrate the end of exams with me which was super nice! May also involved quite a few blog events, and my friend came over from Texas to see little old me! Very grateful to have a friend who thinks I’m worth travelling across the world for.
It has definitely been a busy month, but it’s also been a really good month. I have a feeling this blog post will be a long one, so grab a snack and get comfy!
What I’ve Been Reading…
Where is my ghost life now? Wondering ‘what if’? // Chloe has such a way with words. In this post, she talks about the notion of having a “ghost life” – essentially questioning what her life would be like if things were different. I really resonated with this post – I often find my brain wondering ‘what if’ and I think she articulated some thoughts that I’ve been struggling to string together in my own head!
The Cows by Dawn O’Porter // I know I’ve mentioned this quite a few times recently, but I’ve been struggling to finish a book ever since exam time started… However, this book really got me back into the swing of things. The Cows follows 3 very different women and their individual journeys on learning not to follow the crowd. I loved Dawn’s writing style and how she told each of the women’s stories. I will definitely be preordering her new book which comes out later this year!
I’m A Wheelchair User and I Can Walk // This was an incredible blog post. Shona is a disability and theatre blogger who I’ve followed on Twitter for a while now. She wrote and compiled this blog post to demonstrate and educate that not all wheelchair users are the same. She pointed out that many people will just assume that if you’re in a wheelchair you are paralysed or unable to walk, and that is definitely not the case! Throughout this blog post, Shona shared the stories of several people who use their wheelchairs for various differing reasons but can still walk.
What I’ve Been Watching…
Loeppkys Life // This is a Youtube channel I discovered recently, and I’ve been binge watching their videos ever since! Delilah is a Canadian young mum with two kids under two. She has such a calm nature, and I just love watching her family vlogs! Don’t ask me why I love watching Canadian and American family vloggers so much… I just do
Hanna // This is a show we started watching on Amazon Prime in the last month or so, and it has me hooked! We’ve got one more episode to watch, and I will 100% be watching it as soon as I hit publish on this post. Hanna is a teenage girl who was raised in the forest, having never socialised with anyone expect her own father. She lives her life constantly feeling on edge, waiting for ‘them’ to come. The show follows Hanna’s journey as she tries to find out the truth about who she really is and who she’s running from.
I think it goes without saying that I’ve been watching The Office and Parks and Rec too.
What I’ve Been Listening To…
Guiltless by Dodie // I think it’s already pretty obvious that I love everything Dodie creates – she is an angel. Guiltless is her newest single, and it’s so catchy. She touches on a tough subject in her childhood, dealing with trauma and learning to forgive. I am in awe of how Dodie can create songs based on such hard times yet make them sound so incredibly beautiful??? I think if I tried my song would just be a melody of tears and snotty tissues.
So many podcasts // more specifically, all of the podcasts I mentioned in my last post. In addition to that little list, Hannah Witton has also started a new podcast and I’ve been listening to that too! It’s an honest conversation about sex, relationships, dating and more.
Why Am I Like This? EP // I have been not so patiently waiting for Orla’s new EP to be released, and it finally happened towards the end of the month. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint! Why Am I Like This and Flatline were both songs I’ve heard before, but it was nice to hear the finished studio versions. Inevitable and Overthinking were both two completely new songs to me, and they have quickly become two of my all time favourites. Overthinking is so different to Orla’s usual vibe, but I love it.
Where I’ve Been…
I actually left Glasgow this month, can ya believe it?! While Anastacia was visiting, we took a trip down to Newcastle as well as a very quick trip up to Inverness.
In Newcastle, the highlight was definitely Quayside Market. Okay the real highlight was probably drunk karaoke, but other than that… the market! Quayside Market is always full of amazing stalls, but my favourite this time was definitely a local ceramicist! I picked up a coffee cup for me and a little food bowl for Bear. It actually has the word cat engraved on it, and I think it’s the best thing I’ve ever purchased?? Bear is a spoiled boy for sure.
We also visited Flat Caps Coffee which is somewhere I’ve wanted to visit for ages! It is a cafe filled to the brim with beautiful greenery and a great selection of speciality coffee. As usual, I opted for a flat white and it was great.
Back in Glasgow…
I visited Honu with Gemma at the beginning of the month. She spoke very highly of it, so I was excited to try it! I had their teriyaki cauliflower poke bowl, and it was really good. We didn’t get a cocktail this time, but I definitely will next time…
Glasgow Coffee Festival also took place in May. This was my first year going to the coffee fest, but I know it definitely won’t be the last! I discovered (and tried) a lot of cool coffee companies, and I left with a tote bag full of beans!
Last but not least, I also went to brunch at the Blythswood. Gemma (aka the brains behind Bloggers Who Brunch) organised a brunch there and it was so much fun. I got to chat to lots of bloggers I hadn’t met before, and we also got to celebrate Michelle’s engagement which was so so nice! She is a real gem.
And that’s a wrap! May was a busy month, and I have a feeling June will be relatively busy too. It is my birthday month after all…
What did you get up to in May? Have ya got any books/podcasts/TV shows I need to know about? Let me know!
Are you all caught up? Last week I shared some lifestyle and culture podcasts worth listening to.
Fancy seeing more of me? You’ll find me over on Instagram and Twitter basically every day!
