New around here? Let me catch you up. Small Happy Moments is a series where I reflect and share some of the little things that have made me happy recently.
It’s been just over a month since I started back at uni, and it’s quickly becoming very stressful. So I figured that now is as good a time as any to focus on the positives!
Finally Finding The Courage
No idea what I’m talking about? I had an honest chat about my mental health a couple weeks ago… I’ve felt such a huge relief since asking for help and sharing a bit about it online too. After bottling up my feelings for so long, it’s been really rewarding to do something about it. I’m no where near where I want to be, but I’m taking little baby steps in the right direction and I’m so proud of that.
Homemade Soup and Sourdough Bread
Now that it’s getting a bit colder, I’ve gotten into making soup again! With Big Bear Bakery opening up just round the corner, I’ve also had access to some delicious baked goods. Their black sesame sourdough is incredible, and we’ve been buying a loaf most weeks! Some homemade soup and a nice bit of bread has been the perfect cosy meal recently.
Autumn Leaves
Going for a walk in the park is one of my favourite things to do at any time of year, but it feels even more special in Autumn. You’ll most likely find me walking round Queens Park at least 3 times a week. As much as I love Summer and Winter respectively, there’s something really nice about Autumn. It’s not too warm or too cold, and I love seeing all of the red and orange toned leaves.
New Candles To Burn
Sounds a bit like a Taylor Swift song doesn’t it? After resisting the temptation to buy any candles since last year, I finally treated myself to some new ones. T K Maxx have a great selection of Autumn and Winter candles, and I’m pretty sure I spent at least an hour sniffing them all. I managed to leave with only 3 candles, and I’m pretty impressed with my self-restraint if I’m honest.
Family Time
It was short and sweet, but I got to spend some time with my mum and little brother last week. They came all the way up to Glasgow from Newcastle to see me. We spent the day walking around the Southside, and I enjoyed every minute of it even if the weather was rubbish. I don’t get to see them as much as I’d like to, so I really do appreciate the time I do get with them.
Going Out For Brunch
There’s something really satisfying about rolling out of bed at the weekend knowing you’re going to have a yummy brunch. I’ve been lucky enough to go out for brunch quite a few times recently… My bank balance isn’t too happy about it, but my tummy sure is! My favourite brunch of late has to be the pancakes I had at Cafe Strange Brew. With vanilla mascarpone, dark chocolate ganache, fresh strawberries and some toasted almonds they are INCREDIBLE.
What have been some of your small happy moments recently? Let me know in the comments please. I need all the positivity!

Autumn leaves have definitely been my happy thing recently! I just can’t get enough of the colours, both seeing them in person and scrolling through Instagram.
This is the second post today which has mentioned TK Maxx’s candles so I think I need to stop by and stock up! I love TK Maxx but it’s been a few weeks since I was there so I imagine they will have lots of goodies.
Lovely post, as always, and once again – so proud of you for opening up about your mental health.
I am so with you on the homemade soup! We made our own bread as well, literally just a bread mix and water and it’s SO GOOOOD. Also you’ve reminded me that I was gonna buy a new candle and diffuser so thanks!
Ooooh I’m yet to try making my own bread, definitely something I should do this winter! Hope you’ve bought some nice new candles x
