Looking for something lighthearted to binge watch? You’re in luck. The following 5 shows are all on Netflix, and they’re ridiculously addictive. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good drama or thriller, but I think it’s really nice to unwind with a comedy. If I’ve had a stressful or anxious day (which seems to be very often recently), the last thing I want to do is watch something that’ll stress me out further.
Without further ado, here are 5 funny Netflix shows you should be watching…
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Directed by Tina Fey herself, this show doesn’t disappoint. It actually took me a couple episodes to get into it, but now I am hooked. After spending 15 years in an underground bunker thinking the world has ended, Kimmy Schmidt is in for a big shock when she is rescued and brought back to the real world. Kimmy takes on the streets of New York City and she has a lot to learn. This show is full of quirky characters and jokes that keep you laughing throughout.
The Good Place
The Good Place is the perfect mixture of comedy and ethical dilemmas. People often ponder if there’s an afterlife and what it’s like, right? Well, welcome to The Good Place… After her death, Eleanor wakes up there and quickly realises she must be in the wrong place. The Good Place is a small, selective town for the most ethical and generous people… Eleanor was neither of those things. She realises that if she wants to stay, she’ll have to learn how to be a good person, but it won’t be easy.
Grace and Frankie
Grace and Frankie could not be more different if they tried. The only connection they have is their husbands, who are both lawyers and have worked together for years. Grace and Frankie have no intention of being friends, but when their husbands announce that they’re gay and in love with each other, their lives are more intertwined than ever before. After only a few episodes, I could’ve easily moved in with these two. Frankie would make sure you were always having fun, whereas Grace would make sure you had your life together which is exactly what I need!
Jane the Virgin
This has probably got to be my favourite show that I’ve watched this year. Jane is a religious 23 year old woman who lives with her flirtatious, outgoing mother and her even more religious grandmother. She made a promise to her grandmother at a young age that she would wait until marriage, and she intends to keep that promise. However, things don’t exactly go to plan. After a very bizarre mixup at the doctors, Jane returns home as a pregnant virgin and all chaos ensues. You won’t want to miss it!
This is the newest show of the bunch, so you’ve unfortunately only got one season to binge watch. Good Girls follows three suburban mothers living in Detroit. They all need money for different reasons, and they need it fast. What is supposed to be one quick and easy robbery at their local supermarket turns into so much more. Hiding their new lives from their family and risking more than they ever imagined, their lives are far from the routine school run and food shop. You can’t help but laugh as you watch these three normal women try to juggle a life of parenthood and dangerous crime.
Have you watched any of these? Do you have any other shows to recommend? I’m currently rewatching The Office on Amazon Prime which is obviously incredible.
